I just wanted to thank you and let you know how very much I'm enjoying your books, especially this new one "Step By Step With a Pastel Portrait." Wow, what an eye opener.
As you may recall, I've only done portraits with my handy dandy pencil and best friend, the eraser, in my younger years, but I have never worked with color.

I have also done a small amount of sculpting with clay, which I loved since I worked the details in with my hands. So, I decided to try my hand at pastels.
Well... I got to use my hands alright, but soon realized that I didn't know NUTIN about values, layering, blending, smudging, and so on. Then I just happened to see your books on line and thought, "give it a try girl, nothing to loose here."
I'm sure I don't have to tell you what your guidance has done for me since it so plainly shows in my work... it speaks for itself, please see attached photos, one attempt of my niece and the other of my hubby.

I painted my husband with your step by step method, he looks so cute, and I'm so proud that I can't stand myself!
I cannot begin to tell you how you've made my "pastel painting adventure" so much more enjoyable and freed my spirit. Thank you, thank you... these words need to be repeated. I just know that I'm now going to get even better at working with pastels, your books have given me that confidence.
I can't wait to get started on my other family members portraits, as a matter of fact, I should probably redo my before paintings as well.
With a great deal of gratitude and appreciation,
